Get to know about Emmanuel Wesleyan Church

We are a church looking to make a difference in the Roanoke community and we would love for you to join us if you do not have a home church. Our ministry serves three main purposes: reaching people far from God, growing in our relationship with Christ, and being the hands and feet of Jesus to everyone we can. If you are excited about the mission of Christ and serving alongside other active Christians then EWC is the place for you.

Encounter Christ

Spiritual formation begins with a personal encounter with Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

Embrace Community

Spiritual growth happens best when we commit to “doing life” with other Christians.
Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV)

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Equip to Serve

God gives every Christian special abilities that, when discovered, developed and deployed, strengthen the church and encourages everyone’s involvement in ministry.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a]may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Engage Culture

The church must address the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the community in which it exists.
Isaiah 1:17 (NIV)

Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed.Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow

Statement of Faith

We believe the entire Bible is the written Word of God, the record of God’s self-revelation to humankind. The Scriptures consisting of the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments were inspired by God to be written by human beings. We believe that the Bible is true and trustworthy, the final authority in the lives of Christ-followers and the life of the church.
We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ is the second member of the Trinity (the Son of God) who became flesh to reveal God’s love for humanity and to become the Savior of the lost world.
We believe that all people are created in the image of God to have fellowship with Him but are alienated in that relationship as a result of sin. People are not capable of restoring a right relationship with God through their own efforts.
We believe that the death of Jesus Christ on the cross provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sin and reconciliation with God. God freely offers the gift of salvation to everyone who places their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as payment in full for their sin. Baptism symbolizes the Believer’s participation in Jesus’ death and resurrection and the washing away of one’s sin.
We believe every follower of Christ should live for Christ and not for themselves. Through obedience to the Word of God and daily yielding to the Spirit of God leading, every believer grows and is conformed to the image of Christ.
We believe that the church is the body of Christ, and Jesus Christ is the head of the church. The members of the church are those who have been restored to a relationship with God by placing their faith in Jesus Christ. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by loving Him, loving our neighbors, and by making Jesus Christ known to the lost world
